Responsibilities
- Assist with professional collections management for Earth Sciences Geology collections as needed for the Gems and Minerals Exhibit Project.
- Document, rehouse, prepare, clean, move, and store collections.
- Monitor and supervise interns and volunteers as needed.
- Handle specimens safely and adhere to collections management best practices during moving, rehousing, labeling, inventorying, and installing specimens.
- Update and maintain collections data in the museum's collections management system, EMu.
- Implement and ensure adherence to all safety protocols in collections.
- Support internal and external outreach and service programs as needed.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in earth sciences or geosciences.
- 6 months of collections experience required.
- 6 months of relational database experience required.
- Basic to intermediate proficiency in Excel.
Nice-to-haves
- Master's degree in geology, mineralogy, earth sciences, or related field.
- Basic understanding of mineral specimen needs, risks, cleaning procedures, and locality types.
- Experience handling, moving, preparing, and rehousing mineral collections.
- Experience working with volunteers.
- Experience using mineral and geoscience databases.
- Experience or interest in engaging diverse audiences in science and science communication.
- Proven record of being a highly motivated, proactive team player.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
